Recall for onion sausage due to salmonella

Meat processor Bell Germany has started a recall for onion sausage because microbial contamination with Salmonella was found in a sample. These bacteria can lead to diarrhea and other health problems.

Salmonella in onion sausage

The meat processing company Bell Germany is calling back the "Zimbo Spicy Onion Meat Sausage 3x40g" with the best before date 03.02.2019 and the batch number L926012-14. In a single sample of this product "a microbial contamination with Salmonella was found," says a message that was published on the portal "" of the federal states and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection.

Do not consume the affected product

According to the information, the sausage was sold nationwide and has since been withdrawn from the market.

"Consumers who have purchased this product are asked not to consume it and dispose of it for safety reasons," the message said.

Customers can return packs of the affected product to their point of sale or send the packs to Bell Germany to receive a corresponding purchase price compensation.

Bacteria can cause gastrointestinal disorders

"Salmonella can trigger severe gastrointestinal disorders (salmonellosis)," the company writes.

The disease occurs a few hours to days after the infection and manifests itself primarily through sudden onset diarrhea, abdominal pain, malaise and headache.

In some cases, vomiting and mild fever are added.

The symptoms usually go away on their own after a few hours or days.

However, fluid loss due to diarrhea and vomiting can be dangerous for infants, young children, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system.

"Because of this health risk, customers should pay attention to the recall and not consume the affected product," warns Bell Germany. (ad)
