Open gyms: So you don't take unnecessary corona risk
Because of the spread of the corona virus, the gyms across Germany have been closed for weeks - in many places the mandatory break is now over. The corona measures are relaxed and the sports centers are allowed to open again. Anyone who goes back to training should definitely follow some rules to protect themselves from infection with the virus.
As in other countries, many measures to contain the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus are currently being relaxed in Germany. In some states, such as North Rhine-Westphalia, gyms are allowed to reopen. Sport is a good way to get rid of the corona pounds. But also during training you should protect yourself against infection with the pathogen.
Protect against the virus and do not overwhelm the body
Most people in Germany are still dependent on fitness tips for at home during the Corona crisis, but in some federal states the first fitness studios have reopened after weeks of Corona suspension.
However, those who go to training should follow a few rules to protect themselves from the virus and not overwhelm the body.
This is indicated by the Barmer health insurance in a current notification.
Change masks when they are wet
“When training in the gym, you should take several masks with you and change them as soon as they are wet. Since you get bad air through the mask, you should throttle your training a bit and slowly approach your limits, ”explains Klaus Möhlendick, sports scientist at Barmer.
For a healthy athlete, it is not a problem if breathing through the protective mask is a little more strenuous. According to the message, this could even train and strengthen the respiratory muscles to a certain extent.
However, people who already have respiratory or circulatory problems should reduce their training significantly and exercise better at home so as not to jeopardize their recovery.
Train in one direction
However, a breathing mask alone does not offer sufficient protection against the coronavirus. "As everywhere else, a minimum distance of one and a half to two meters must be strictly observed in the gym in order to avoid corona infection," says Möhlendick.
"In addition, the trainees should take a uniform line of sight so that they don't breathe each other's faces," advises the expert.
This is so important because the face mask gets wet quickly and thus loses its protective function.
Don't touch your face
When training in the gym, you should always pay more attention to hygiene than before the corona pandemic.
This includes, among other things, disinfecting the handles of the devices and other contact surfaces best before and after each training session.
Under no circumstances should you touch your face during training, as this would make the risk of transmission of the coronavirus particularly high, according to experts. According to Möhlendick, you should wash your hands thoroughly after training. (ad)
